Ashland High School Performing Arts proudly presents HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical — May 2 - 13 Ashland High School Theatre proudly presents HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, with an exclusive rarely-produced version based on the 2009 Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of the 1968 original. The cast and crew of 45 is directed by Lenny Neimark. HAIR features book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado with music by Galt MacDermot. The nine performances will be May 3-13 with a preview on May 2 at 7:30 and two Sunday matinees May 6 and 13 at 2 p.m. This production is rated PG-13 for mature themes, with high school appropriate language.   Marking the 50th anniversary of the mother of all rock musicals, HAIR is at once both a joyous celebration of youth and a poignant journey through a tumultuous 1960s America. This exuberant musical about a group of teenagers searching for truth, peace and love in a Vietnam War era has struck a resonant chord with audiences of all ages. HAIR features an eclectic score filled with classics including “Aquarius,” “Let the Sun Shine In,” “Hair,” and “Easy to Be Hard.”   The themes and struggles in HAIR remain as vital and relevant today as ever. HAIR features an extraordinary cast: Claude (Kyle Storie); Berger (Preston Mead); Sheila (Audrey Cirzan); Jeanie (Sierra Milburn); Woof (Henry Alexander); Hud (Taylor Kelly-McMahon); Dionne (Mumi Thiaw); Crissy (Ella Stringer); Mom (Zoe Lishinsky); Dad (Jack Kleen); Margaret Mead (Nicky Clary) and the Tribe: Akira Supelana-Mix, Allie Poole, Anabella Ross, Brook Hall, Elena Schmeling, Ethan Bennett, Gahl Falkner, Isac Neet, Jake Mossiah, Joshua Henkel, Julia Tobrock, Leila Kenner, Madison Davis, Marin Monteith, Samara French, Taiga Sherman, Tristan Bucy and Zakiyah Clark. The stage manager is AHS senior Starlie Bertrand, assisted by Risso Mulholland and Sabrina Circiello.   The design and artistic team assisting director Lenny Neimark includes: Coleman Wheeler, Technical Director; Holly Foster, Vocal Director; John Taylor, Music Director; Hayley Thirlwall, Choreographer; Alexandra Zweig, Assistant Choreographer; Bart Grady, Lighting Designer; Natalie Scott, Scenic Designer; Emily Ehrlich-Inget, Costume Designer; Cherelle Guyton, Costume Designer/Wigs; Ben Cobb, Sound Consultant; Alan Parowski, Dramaturg; and Betsy Bishop, Producer. The 11-piece onstage rock 'n roll band features renowned local guitarists Jeff Pevar and Paul Turnipseed, keyboardist/conductor John Taylor, director Neimark's son Gabriel (an AHS senior) on drums, with members of the Rogue Valley Symphony including Theresa McCoy on percussion, Bruce Dresser and Jon Janakes on trumpets, Daryl Fjeldheim on reeds, with AHS student musicians Jack Diab on bass and Oliver Maude on trombone.   HAIR will be performed at Ashland High School's Mountain Avenue Theatre located at 201 South Mountain Avenue in Ashland. The show runs for two weekends and includes 9 performances: Thurs–Saturday, May 3 - 5 and May 10 -12 at 7:30 p.m. with two Sunday matinees May 6 and 13 at 2 p.m. A $12 preview is on Wednesday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. NOTE: Come 30 minutes prior to curtain for the Be-In—an immersive Happening!
